Porsche has unveiled a new GTS version of its all-electric Taycan at the LA Auto Show.

The Stuttgart company’s GTS-line models cherrypick the best parts of the options list and this new Taycan is no different.

The Taycan GTS gets the Performance Battery Plus with 93.4 kWh capacity, while its electric motors can achieve a very healthy 440 kW of “overboost” power when using launch control – which will shunt you from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Top speed is limited to 155 mph. The all-wheel-drive Taycan GTS will be able to manage 312 miles of range.

“The Taycan model range has grown steadily since its world premiere in 2019. Three-body variants with up to five engine options offer something for everyone,” says Kevin Giek, Vice President Model Line Taycan.

“I am particularly pleased that we now also have a Taycan with the legendary GTS moniker. It is positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo, so it represents a real sweet spot in the range.”

The Taycan GTS will be available in three body styles: The ‘regular’ Taycan saloon, the Taycan Cross Turismo featuring the slightly raised suspension and long estate hatchback, and the new Taycan Sport Turismo which takes the estate roofline from the Cross Turismo but the lower, sportier stance of the regular Taycan saloon.

The headroom in the rear is more than 45 millimetres greater than that in the saloon, and the load capacity under the large tailgate is more than 1,200 litres. However, the Taycan Sport Turismo does not have the raised suspension or Gravel mode of the Cross Turismo, nor off-road design elements.

Adaptive air suspension, including Porsche Active Suspension Management is tuned specifically to the GTS to “bring further dynamic focus.” Porsche also says that the optional rear-wheel steering is more responsive.

The GTS models also get the characteristic GTS-line styling cues inside and out. Black highlights are added around the front apron, the bases of the exterior mirrors and side windows. Inside, however, black “Race-Tex” coverings adorn almost everything.

Finally, the Taycan GTS models come with a panoramic glass roof with variable lighting control. An electrically switchable liquid crystal film can change the roof from clear to opaque. This protects the occupants from glare, without darkening the interior. The roof is also dividable into nine sections that can be switched individually – a world first in the automotive sector, apparently.

Oh, and the price? Try £104,190 for the saloon and £104,990 for the Sport Turismo. The first cars are set to arrive in the spring of 2022.
