Waymo, Google’s self-driving subsidiary, has started offering taxi rides to trusted San Francisco residents.
As part of the company’s new “Trusted Tester” research programs, select residents will be able to hail a ride in a driverless Jaguar I-Pace.
Waymo has, however, been offering driverless rides to Phoenix residents since 2017 – albeit with a Waymo company rep sitting in the car.
San Francisco Trusted Testers will be able to hail autonomous rides in the initial service area – though Waymo hasn’t specified where this was.
Trusted Tester will also share feedback with Waymo using the Waymo One app, in order to help refine the service.
Waymo will also let anyone sign up for the Trusted Tester program using the Waymo One app, though not everyone will be accepted.
